Monitoring 5G interference issues in the field

Diagnosing 5G network performance problems requires field measurements of the occupied spectrum, while analyzing the frequency range for co-channel interference, side-band interference, adjacent channel interference, and intermodulation effects. These issues may present as downlink interference at the base station or user equipment, uplink interference, or external interference from competing RF communications signals, unlicensed operation, or equipment failure.

Quickly identifying sources of interferences requires a measurement system that identifies interfering signals in three dimensions: frequency, power, and time. A real-time spectrum analyzer (RTSA) uses color-coded display techniques to show trace intensity, which helps differentiate interference from operations signals.
