Emulating real-world networks for RF signaling test

Testing the RF performance of Wi-Fi® networks with signaling requires measuring how a device under test (DUT), such as a client or access point, behaves in real-world network conditions. Test engineers must test the RF layer transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) operations in isolation. For Tx tests, engineers need to configure the DUT to transmit signals with the desired transmitting power, frequency, and modulation orders to ensure the best RF performance on the transmitter side.

The connected test equipment can measure power losses, modulation quality, and spectral quality under real-world conditions such as distance and interference. Similarly, on the Rx side, engineers can use the network emulator to transmit desired signals with varying power levels, distance, throughput, and packet error rate (PER). Based on the signal delivered to the DUT or the receiver, the test equipment will characterize the sensitivity of the receiver.

Wi-Fi 7 test solution

Testing Wi-Fi RF and throughput performance with signaling requires a network emulator that can present real-world conditions to the DUT. The Keysight wireless connectivity test platform emulates hundreds of clients, tests the performance of 160 MHz Wi-Fi 6E and 320 MHz Wi-Fi 7 channels with 4x4 multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO), and evaluates interworking between cellular and Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi 7 test solution includes analysis software to provide PHY / MAC-level information such as rate versus range, enhanced Rx sensitivity, radio unit (RU) sweep analysis, and full-rate throughput to generate relevant Wi-Fi signaling and RF throughput results.
