Can I manually set the sample rate on my InfiniiVision oscilloscope?

Although the sample rate cannot be directly set on any InfiniiVision oscilloscope, it can be set indirectly by adjusting the oscilloscopes time per division setting. This is because Keysight’s MegaZoom IV custom ASIC technology automatically adjusts the sampling rate so the oscilloscope fills the screen with waveform samples. In general, the sampling rate follows the equation:

Sampling Rate = Memory Depth / Time on Screen

This allows the oscilloscope to fill up the displayed timebase on screen without wasting time and memory capturing off screen data.

You can monitor the actual sampling rate of your oscilloscope as described below and adjust the time base to obtain the desired sampling rate.

  • To see the sample rate on 7000B series scopes simply hit the [Horiz] key on the front panel. The sample rate will appear in the bottom right hand of the screen.
  • To see the sample rate on 5000 and 6000 series scopes hit the [Main/Delayed] key on the front panel. The sample rate will appear in the bottom right hand of the screen.
  • The sample rate for 2000x and 3000x series scopes is displayed on the right side of the screen under the Acquisition section at all times.
