How do I get the maximum available memory depth from my Infiniium oscilloscope?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Summary

How do I get the maximum available memory depth from my Infiniium oscilloscope?

Question

How do I get the maximum available memory depth from my Infiniium oscilloscope?

Answer

The various Infiniium oscilloscope models offer between 32K and 128M points of memory per channel. The following guide shows you how to get the maximum available memory from your particular scope.

Note that the multipliers "M" (one million) and "K" (one thousand) are not strictly defined in this document. They are approximations used for brevity. Not all memory depths are even powers of 2.

For 5481xA and 5482xA

Maximum memory: 32K

To get max memory: Click Setup | Acquisition, set the Memory Depth to Manual, and increase the value to 32K.

For 54835A and 5484xA/B

Maximum memory: 64K (half-channel mode)

To get max memory: Turn on only channels 1 and 3 or channels 2 and 4. Click Setup | Acquisition, set the Memory Depth to Manual, and increase the value to 64K.

For 5483xB/D, 54833A, and DSO8000 series

Maximum memory: (Interleaved/each channel):
Standard: 4M/2M (1M/512K for 54833A)
Option 040: 8M/4M
Option 080: 16M/8M
Option 160: 32M/16M
Option 320: 64M/32M
Option 640: 128M/64M

Notes:

1) Options 160, 320, and 640 are not available for older 5483xB/D units. These options are only available for the following units:

  • 54830B: serial numbers MY41003601 & SG41001601 and greater
  • 54830D: serial numbers MY42001901 & SG42000901 and greater
  • 54831B: serial numbers MY41003601 & SG41001601 and greater
  • 54831D: serial numbers MY42001901 & SG42000901 and greater
  • 54832B: serial numbers MY41003601 & SG41001601 and greater
  • 54832D: serial numbers MY42001901 & SG42000901 and greater
  • 54833A: serial numbers MY43000801 & SG43000801 and greater
  • 54833D: serial numbers MY43000801 & SG43000801 and greater

2) Maximum interleaved memory depth is only available at maximum interleaved sample rate. For example, with option 640, 128M memory is only available in half-channel mode at 4 GSa/s.

3) Maximum per-channel memory depth is available at any selectable sample rate. For example, with option 640, 64M memory is available at 4 GSa/s, 2 GSa/s, etc.

To get max memory: Turn on only channels 1 and 3 or channels 2 and 4. Set the trigger sweep to Single via the front panel Sweep button. Click Setup | Acquisition, set the Sampling Rate to 4 GSa/s and the Memory Depth to Manual with a value of up to 128M (depending upon memory option).

For the 5485xA

Maximum memory:
Standard: 256K
Option 001: 1M at all sample rates; 32M ≤ 2 GSa/s

To get max memory: Set the trigger sweep to Single via the front panel Sweep button. Click Setup | Acquisition, set the Sampling Rate to 2 GSa/s and the Memory Depth to Manual with a value of 32M (with option 001).

For the DSO80000 series

Maximum memory: (2 channels/4 channels):
Standard: 512K/256K
Option 001: 2M/1M at all sample rates; 64M/32M ≤ 4/2 GSa/s

To get max memory: Turn on only channels 1 and 3 or channels 2 and 4. Set the trigger sweep to Single via the front panel Sweep button. Click Setup | Acquisition, set the Sampling Rate to 4 GSa/s and the Memory Depth to Manual with a value of 64M (with option 001).
