Is it possible to plot Noise Figure and Gain traces from the 8970B to a printer via the Intelligent Interfaces Converter?

Yes. The ITEL45CHVUC parallel to GPIB converter allows the 8970A,B Noise Figure Meters to plot directly to a HP-GL compatible Hewlett-Packard printer.

Details:

The printer MUST support the Hewlett-Packard HP-GL language set. All HP printers that have PCL-5 support include HP-GL as a language subset. A partial list of HP Printers which support HP-GL include the Laser Jet 6P, Laser Jet 1600C, Laser Jet 1200C and the Laser Jet 1100A (new).

The ITEL45CHVUC converter was placed on the System Interface Bus, or SIB, of the 8970B. The GPIB address of the ITEL45CHVUC converter was set to 5, i.e. switches 1, 2, 3, and 4 were set to 1, 0, 1, 0 - respectively.

The ITEL converter must be configured to accept HP-GL codes in the portrait mode. This is achieved by setting switch 5, 6, 7, and 8 to 1, 1, 1, 0 - respectively.

The page must be ejected manually by pressing the manual eject button on the printer.

The system tested included a 8970B Noise figure meter, Laser Jet 6P printer, HP ITEL45CHVUC converter, parallel printer cable, GPIB cable and a 10dB attenuator as the device under test (DUT).

The following keys and functions were utilized during system set up and test:

GAIN MAX: GAIN MIN: NOISE MAX: NOISE MIN - Use to set the SCALING on the plot output. For the 10dB attenuator tested these were as follows: GAIN MAX = -9, GAIN MIN = - 11, NOISE MAX = 11, NOISE MIN = 9.

Special Function 47.0 - Configure the 8970B to plot to the SIB bus.

Special Function 40.3 - Use to set the plotter GPIB address on the SIB bus. Default 5.

SINGLE - Use to initiate a single Noise figure sweep (after the START, STOP, STEP SIZE, and CAL functions had been properly utilized).

Special Function 25.0 - Output or plot gain, noise figure, and graticule information.
