VEE Pro: How do I download and install a VEE Panel driver for use in VEE?

The primary sources for VEE Panel Drivers are the VEE Pro installer CD and the Keysight Web.

Installer CD

On the VEE Pro installation CD, Panel Drivers are available only from the Development Environment installer, not from the Runtime Environment installer, though a handful of Panel Drivers are automatically installed with the Runtime. If you're a VEE developer and need to deploy Runtime-based applications, you'll need to ensure that any necessary panel drivers are installed on the end-user system. The drivers are in .cab files on the VEE installer CD, so it's not trivial to extract and install them manually.

If you have the VEE product CD and you've already installed VEE but didn't install the drivers you need, insert the CD and run the installer (it will auto-run on many users' systems, otherwise double-click cdsetup.exe). Select the Development Environment installation, and on the next panel, request to Modify the installation. On the following panel, the categories of Panel Drivers available will be at the bottom of the features tree; select the categories you want added and continue the install. Note that you cannot install individual drivers this way.

Note that since the drivers are in source (ASCII) form, your browser may want to display them rather than download them. Right-clicking the link and selecting Save Target As... will solve this in Internet Explorer. Other browsers may vary.

Find and download the drivers that you need. Be sure to download both .id and .ih files. You can either save the downloaded files directly to their install locations, or put them in a temporary place on your hard drive and move them later.

The .id files (driver source files) need to go into the ids\ folder in the VEE install directory. For a default install of VEE Pro 7.0, this is

C:\Program Files\Keysight\VEE Pro 7.0\ids\

The .ih files (help files) need to go into the help\ folder under the ids\ folder.

Now run VEE Pro, and in the Instrument Manager, navigate to the Panel Driver tab of the Advanced Instrument Properties dialog for the instrument you are installing for. Click the ID Filename: button on that panel and navigate to the .id file you installed to select it as the Panel Driver. While you are there, do any other configuration needed. Return to the Instrument Manager, select the instrument, and click the Panel Driver button. This click will first "compile" the driver from its .id source form to its .cid compiled form, then give you a Panel Driver object outline to drop on the workspace.
