README FILE for 85869PC patch, revision A.02.03 11 November 1999 INSTALLATION PROCESS This installation process assumes that you already have HP BASIC for Windows (Revision 6.30, 6.31, 6.32 or 6.33), and 85869pc (Revision A.01.00 or A.01.01) installed on your PC. NOTE: With WindowsNT4.0 only HP Basic for Windows version 6.32 or 6.33 are supported. 1.) Rename the c:\85869pc folder to c:\85869pc_01.00 (or 85869pc_01.01 if applicable). 2.) Create a new folder on your pc named c:\85869pc 3.) Place a copy of the downloaded self-extracting executable file 85869pc.exe in the c:\85869pc folder. 4.) Using Windows Explorer, go to the c:\85869pc folder and double-click on the 85869pc.exe to begin the self extraction process. At the Unzip to Folder prompt, make sure the folder reads c:\85869pc then select Unzip. Once the files have been extracted, close the Self Extractor dialog box. 5.) From the Windows Start Menu you may run the 85869PC Revision A.02.03 by selecting Start, Programs, HP 85869PC, HP 85869PC. 6.) The configuration menu is different from, but very similar to version A.01.00. If you have a National Instruments GPIB card and are running on Windows95/98 or NT at the EMI Start Menu press F4 EMI CONFIG, F3 GP-IP CONFIG, F5 NI...WIN 95/98/NT to set the configuration for the GPIB board. Setup the Printer or Plotter by pressing F4 Printer/Plotter. When done, press F8 Store & End. 7.) Press F1 START EMI PROG to run the EMI Measurement Program. If you have a specific library from the 85869PC Version A.01.00 that you need to have running under A.02.03, you may use LIB COPY to copy the library to the new location. If you no longer wish to use version A.02.03: 1.) With Windows Explorer delete the folder named c:\85869pc. 2.) Re-name the folder named c:\85869pc_01.00 (or c:\85869pc_01.01) to c:\85869pc NEW in A.02.03 A new configuration option was added to the EMI Configuration Menu for the National Instruments AT-GPIB/TNT and AT-GPIB/TNT (PNP) boards when running on Windows 95/98 or Windows NT4.0. Selecting this option will automatically load the appropriate HP BASIC for Windows driver for the board making it no longer necessary to change this in BASIC code. A file named 85869pc.ini was created. If you would like to install HP BASIC in a folder with a different name than c:\hpbasic (HP BASIC 6.33 only), you may modify this file to indicate folder where HP BASIC for Windows is installed. A routine named STORE PEAK TRACE was added to the User_subs. This routine allows exportation of the composite trace in frequency, amplitude pairs. There is a demo mode accessable from the EMI Configuration Menu. In the Demo mode you can load and print or plot test data without a 85869PC software key but you may not run a test. The number of maximum number of limit line data points was increased from 40 to 99. Provided the ability to use Crtl/Enter to enter BEEP ON or BEEP OFF control whether a beep will occur when entering menus. Speeded up test time by reducing the number of times that the software checks for the presence of a hardware key. PROBLEMS That Revision A.02.03 fixes: In the Analysis mode the reference level in linear is set too low to make Quasi-Peak measurements on low repetition rate signals. When performing Broadband Auto measurements from 1-18 GHz the test aborts after the 1-2 GHz range was measured. When running the software on Windows NT 4.0 with an 85865A, if a preselector input other than bypass is specified in a range in the test setup, the measurement hangs up after the first analyzer sweep within that range. The National Instruments GPIB card to hangs up if the user forgets to load paper in the plotter and attempts to plot. When trying to make CISPR Band A broadband measurement get and Error 31 9697. When launching the 85869PC, the Emi Start menu appears, but after F1 (Start EMI Prgm) is selected the screen goes blank, and only a white cursor is blinks in the lower left. When printing graph to black & white printer, prinout is grey not black. In the MIL_461B library, when you attempt to STORE test or change the name of a test you get ERROR 54 IN 6838 DUPLICATE FILE NAME. When saving files to a floppy disk, you get error 54 because there are too many files for the header file. When a graph is plotted to a file twice you get error 59 line 18163. When plotting a graph to a file of the same file name you get error 183 in line 1336. When combining data files the currently loaded data file is not indicated by an astrisk.
