Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Blueprint to Success

White Papers

The number of applications intended for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) continues on a steady growth trajectory. In fact, according to the research firm Million Insights, the global IIoT market is projected to reach $933 billion by 2025.

Industrial-focused IoT devices are different from consumer-level IoT devices in that they connect machines, vehicles, and devices in industries that include oil and gas, automotive, power generation, construction, and transportation. In addition, IIoT devices are distinct from other IoT applications because they focus on large-scale operational efficiency and safety. The IIoT requires low-energy, low-maintenance, and high-performance devices that can run in challenging environments in real-time. This is the main reason why each step in the IIoT device design and build process is so important.

To create an effective test plan, the design engineer must first imagine and anticipate the absolute worst conditions under which the device will operate. The design engineer must then test individual components within a device, as well as the finished product, to fully explore those conditions. This white paper will address each of the following components and offer guidance for creating an effective test matrix outline. Developers can use these concepts as a foundation on which to build a complete test plan to deploy industrial IoT devices with a greater degree of confidence.
