When deploying base stations (macro, micro and pico cells) in urban areas, problems can arise such as the base station insufficiently covering the intended area or energy spilling outside of the designed boundary. This can cause “pilot/reference” pollution, missing neighbors, and handover failures. FieldFox’s (OTA) LTE FDD measurement application can differentiate cell information transmitted over-the-air from multiple base stations operating at the same carrier frequency (up to six adjacent cell ID’s, if present), or from a single base station transmitting multiple carriers at multiple frequencies (up to five component carriers). Users can measure and display control channel power, cell ID and channel signal qualities and gain insight into network utilization and capacity. By integrating OTA with real-time spectrum analysis (RTSA) and spectrum analysis, RF engineers and technicians can dive deeper into network problems such as co-channel coverage, co-channel interference, and neighbor list optimization.
