Add calibrated AWGN to faded signals
Selecting Option 168 for N5115A Baseband Studio for fading provides the ability to add calibrated AWGN digitally to faded signals. Baseband Studio for fading reduces setting the AWGN level from a highly complicated task to a simple adjustment of C/N or Eb/No in the user interface. Additionally, a unique AWGN feature allows you specify how the AWGN is added. For example, you can set the C/N ratio and fix one of the other quantities constant, such as the total power or the noise power, and the other parameters will automatically adjust to deliver the desired C/N ratio. The ability to configure the AWGN accurately and easily simplifies receiver testing.

Typical applications
Option 168 is recommended for generating faded signals in the presence of AWGN. Common uses include simulating noisy channel environments to receiver sensitivity testing. Uncorrelated noise can be added to dual-channel configurations for applications such as transmit or receive diversity testing.

Note: Dual-channel configurations require two of each desired option, as well as two N5101A Baseband Studio PCI cards. Dual channel capability is not supported with the E5515C wireless communications test set.
