The Leap from 100GE to 400GE Brings New Perils
The networking industry is experiencing unprecedented global demand to deliver more network bandwidth to meet the needs of data, video, mobile, and storage applications. Megatrends within the industry like moving to the cloud and big data, plus those driven by end-users and subscribers such as going mobile, and the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) are pushing industry standards’ bodies to develop more and faster Ethernet speeds.
Communications chip manufacturers, network equipment manufacturers (NEMs), cloud service providers (CSPs), carriers and service providers, hyperscale and large enterprise data centers, financial, and storage network organizations must adopt and deploy new Ethernet speeds like the fast-emerging 400 gigabit Ethernet (GE) and 200GE, plus new implementations of 100GE and 50GE. There is a tremendous amount of new product development occurring between 2015 and 2020 to meet the bandwidth demand. Now, we are right in the middle of this period, and new chip makers are coming to market, introducing high-performance products.
