This firmware upgrade fixes the CLOSE:STAT? and OPEN ALL command problem found in revision 4.0. The problem causes the 3499A/B mainframe to hang-up.

Keysight Service Notes 3499A-06, 3499B-06, and 3499C-06 address this problem. This problem only occurs in 3499A and 3499B products using firmware revision 4.0. The 3499C mainframe is not affected.

Verify the firmware revision by selecting "Menu" from the front panel. Turn the knob until "REVISION INFO" is displayed; press enter. If "REV 4.0 2.0" is displayed, you should upgrade to Revision 4.2.

This upgrade is not for firmware revisions earlier than 4.0.

Follow the procedure below to upgrade the 3499. A PC with a GPIB card is required. The downloader program uses VISA I/O calls so the PC must also have VISA installed.

  1. Download "3499_4_2_update.exe", a self extracting archive, to the PC.
  2. Unzip the archive to a local directory.
  3. Run "setup.exe" to install the Keysight 3499 firmware upgrade onto your PC.
  4. Connect the 3499A/B to the computer via GPIB.
  5. Power on 3499 mainframe with both the Shift and Enter key pressed - "Downloader 3.0" should appear on the display.
  6. Select Start/Programs/Keysight 3499 upgrade--downloader.
  7. Select "GPIB 9".
  8. Select "Firmware 4.2 (SCPI 3488) for control board 2.0".
  9. Press "Download".
  10. The 34499 will click and display "Downloading".
