What Types of Removable Disk Drives Do Infiniium Scopes Have?

Operational "How to" Guides

Summary

What types of removable disk drives do Infiniium scopes have?

Description

5481xA, 5482xA, 54835A, and 5484xA/B:

This group of Infiniium scopes originally shipped with standard 3.5" 1.44 MB floppy drives. In later years, the standard floppy drive was replaced with a 3.5" 120 MB LS-120 floppy drive. The extra capacity of the LS-120 drive allowed users to perform system recoveries and to install software revisions with advanced features (beyond A.03.72).

LS-120 floppy drives look very similar to the standard floppy drives, but with two subtle differences. You can identify the LS-120 drive by the gold icon in the center of its drive door. LS-120 drives also have an electronic (not mechanical) eject button. LS-120 drives will read and write to both 1.44 MB and 120 MB floppy disks.

If you would like to retrofit an LS-120 drive into your scope, order upgrade kit: E2633-68703.

While many of these units have USB ports, the ports are inactive. It may be possible to use third-party USB drives with these units by enabling the USB ports, but Keysight does not support this. We recommend that you not attempt to load any USB drivers without having access to an easy method of system recovery.

5483xB/D:

This newer group of Infiniium scopes has read-only CD-ROM drives. The higher capacity and better performance of these drives makes it easier and faster to perform software upgrades and system recoveries.

These scopes also have 3.5" 120 MB LS-120 floppy drives for users needing the higher storage capacity. LS-120 drives look very similar to standard floppy drives and will read and write to both 1.44 MB and 120 MB floppy disks.

Scopes running Windows XP also have active USB ports, which allows connection to third-party USB drives.

Newer 5483xB/D scopes were able to be purchased with an optional removable hard drive (option 017 or N5390A). The removable hard drive cannot be retrofitted. Since the removable drive replaces the standard hard drive, the scope cannot be operated without the drive installed.

5485xA, DSO8xxxxA:

This group of Infiniium scopes has rewritable CD-RW drives. Since the rewritable drive removed the need for the 120 MB LS-120 floppy drive, these models have standard 1.44 MB floppy drives.

All of these scopes have active USB ports, which can be used to connect to third-party USB drives.

Newer scopes in this group were able to be purchased with an optional removable hard drive (option 017 or N5390A). The removable hard drive cannot be retrofitted. Since the removable drive replaces the standard hard drive, the scope cannot be operated without the drive installed.
