64-bit vbsicl32.dll or sicl32.bas support

IO Libraries Suite Revisions: All revisions

This FAQ applies to users who have been developing 32-bit Excel or VBA test application that utilize the SICL library to communicate with instruments via the 32-bit sicl32.bas and vbsicl32.dll.

If these users want to migrate their test application to 64-bit, we do not provide a 64-bit version of the vbsicl32.dll and thus you cannot migrate these applications.

The reason for this is that legacy VB apps (VB 6 for example) cannot handle 64-bit pointer. By not providing 64-bit vbsicl32.dll, we don’t force users to recompile their VB apps.

Since the SICL library is outdated and is no longer the official instrument communication library as documented by the ivifoundation.org, our recommendation is that users rebuild their test applications so that it utilizes the VISA library instead.

IO Libraries Suite definitely provides both 32-bit and 64-bit implementation of the VISA library.
