TDK Corp. Power Circuit Simulation Leads to Improvement

Application Notes

Using circuit simulators during design is fairly common in the field of RF technology because the high frequencies in designs increase the risks of unexpected troubles caused by parasitic inductance and parasitic capacitance. Prior to prototyping an RF module or RF board, it is essential to analyze the circuit with a circuit simulator and fix potential problems one by one. Such an additional process can prevent problems in later stages, eventually minimizing the cost and time spent on design.

Circuit simulators, however, are not commonly used in power circuit design. Why? One possible reason is that simulated results and measured results used to not match at all. Consequently, many power circuit designers have tried a circuit simulator once but gave up on continuing using it, thinking, “The simulation is worthless if it doesn’t match the measurements.”
