Can I transfer 34401A or 34420A measured data to my PC without any programming?

You can use "IntuiLink for Multimeters" software for the Keysight 34401A and 34420A; it is free software that is online. You can also use the RS-232 port to output data to an RS-232 printer or a terminal emulator like HyperTerminal©.

Using Intuilink:

"IntuiLink for Multimeters" is a toolbar add-in for Microsoft Excel/Word. It enables you to transfer the instrument settings and measured data into Excel/Word easily, then analysze the results or make a report using the functions of Excel/Word.

  • You need to connect 34401A/34420A to your PC by GPIB or RS-232C cable.
  • To connect them by GPIB, you can use Keysight GPIB interface or National Instruments GPIB interface.
  • To connect them by RS-232C, you need to prepare a cross cable of RS-232C.

To download IntuiLink Multimeter software:

Using the RS-232 Port:

The RS-232 port, when the 34401A or 34420A is set to the Talk-Only mode, will output readings every time the instrument is triggered. Use the instructions in the manual to set the 34401A/34420A to the Talk-Only mode. Make sure the correct serial cable is used (the one supplied with the instrument). Also, the printer or HyperTerminal must be set to the same RS-232 parameters as the instrument. For information on using HyperTerminal, see: Can HyperTerminal be used with Keysight General Purpose Instruments?
