How do I obtain the NMEA GGA message file of trajectory information in order to create a dynamic scenario for a moving GNSS receiver?

There are several ways to do this:

  1. Use the Trajectory Generator utility in the N7609B Signal Studio for GNSS software. This allows you to select a predefined path shape such as a circle, or add and configure multiple segments to create the trajectory, and save the data to a GGA file.
  2. Use Google Earth’s “Add Path” tool to draw the desired trajectory using multiple line segments, then choose “Save Place As” and save it as a KML file. In the N7609B software, click on “Trajectory Generator” to go that setup page. Click the “Convert KML” button at the top to bring up the KML to NMEA Converter. Select the KML file and choose the desired parameters, then click the “Convert” button to save the data as a *.nmea GGA file.
  3. Use a GNSS receiver with its receiver monitoring software to record the $GPGGA messages being sent by the receiver. Most receiver software allows you to filter for these messages. Save them to a text file.

Note that scenario and trajectory generation are offline functions that can be performed without a connection to an instrument.
