How do I transfer files to and from my 1660/1670-series logic analyzer using FTP?

To transfer files to and from 166xE and 167xA/D/E/G logic analyzers using FTP, follow these steps:

1. Connect your logic analyzer to the LAN. See the LAN section of your logic analyzer’s User’s Guide for instructions.

2. From the computer that you want to transfer the files to or from, bring up a command prompt on the remote PC: In Windows 95/98, click Start | Run, type command and click OK. In Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, click Start | Run, type cmd and click OK.

3. Establish an FTP connection to the logic analyzer by entering the command
ftp < address > where < address > is the host name or IP address of your logic analyzer.

4. At the User prompt, log in as control or data. No password is required.

The following conditions apply to control users:

  • Can send programming commands
  • Has read and write access to the entire file system
  • There can only be one control user at any time

The following conditions apply to data users:

  • Cannot send programming commands
  • Have read access to the entire file system, but can only write to the /system/disk/hard and /system/disk/flexible directories
  • Multiple data users can access the logic analyzer simultaneously

5. You will now see an ftp > prompt. If you will be transferring screen images or configuration files, set the data transfer type to binary by entering the command bin.

6. Locate the file you want and transfer to or from the PC using the put or get commands, respectively; e.g. put setup.__ or get screen.tif.

The default working directory on the PC is shown in the first prompt in the command window. It is usually C:\Documents and Settings\ < your Windows username > \.

The default directory for user files on the logic analyzer is /system/disk/hard. Use the cd command to call directories on the logic analyzer; e.g. cd system/disk/hard.

For a list of all the available ftp commands, enter the command ? or help at the ftp > prompt.
