FAQs Related to the Waveform 5-pack License

There are several FAQs related to the Waveform 5-pack license. Select from the questions below:

For waveform 5-pack licenses,

  • Can a customer purchase a perpetual or time-based Signal Studio license for one MXG/ESG to evaluate waveforms, and then transfer (FTP, SCPI, USB) the waveform(s) to a different MXG/ESG with unused waveform 5-pack license slots?
  • Can the customer download a waveform generated with the 14-day license?
  • Can the 30-day license attached to each waveform 5-pack license be activated whenever the customer wants –or– do the 30-day periods need to be back-to-back?
  • Can a customer generate a waveform in Signal Studio software not connected to a MXG/ESG, export to a location on their computer (e.g. desktop), and transfer (FTP, SCPI, USB) it to an MXG/ESG(s) with unused waveform 5-pack license slots?
  • What alternatives are available for customers that require additional waveform evaluation time after the initial 30-day period has expired?
  • Once a waveform is licensed, can it be copied and stored for archival purposes?
  •  Is there any protection against accidentally overwriting a licensed waveform?
  • Since a waveform can be copied and renamed, is there protection from a user inadvertently licensing the same signal?
  • Is there a way to have password protection against licensing a 5-pack waveform to prevent someone from inadvertently using up a license slot?
  •  Is there a grace-period where I can still revoke/replace a waveform once it has been licensed?

Question:

Can a customer purchase a perpetual or time-based Signal Studio license for one MXG/ESG to evaluate waveforms, and then transfer (FTP, SCPI, USB) the waveform(s) to a different MXG/ESG with unused waveform 5-pack license slots?

Answer:

Yes, any licensed MXG/ESG can be used to evaluate the waveforms – not just the MXG/ESG with the waveform 5-pack license option.

Question:

Can the customer download a waveform generated with the 14-day license?

Answer:

Yes, if a waveform was created using the 14-day trial, it can be downloaded to any MXG/ESG with unused waveform 5-pack license slots.
Note: The 14-day free trial needs to expire before the waveform 5-pack license can be applied.

Question:

Can the 30-day license attached to each waveform 5-pack license be activated whenever the customer wants –or– do the 30-day periods need to be back-to-back?

Answer:

The 30-day license for the evaluation of waveforms (option D01) may be activated at anytime, although they must be used one at a time.

Question:

Can a customer generate a waveform in Signal Studio software not connected to a MXG/ESG, export to a location on their computer (e.g. desktop), and transfer (FTP, SCPI, USB) it to an MXG/ESG(s) with unused waveform 5-pack license slots?

Answer:

Yes, this method can be used when customers only want to tweak waveform parameters and not evaluate RF performance beforehand.

Question:

What alternatives are available for customers that require additional waveform evaluation time after the initial 30-day period has expired?

Answer:

  • Create waveforms using the Signal Studio 14-day trial license (Note: One 14-day license per ESG/MXG)
  • Export a waveform from Signal Studio and license it with waveform 5-pack without evaluating it first
  • Purchase another waveform 5-pack license and use the 30-day license
  • Purchase a time-based Signal Studio license
  • MXG/ESG with a licensed N76xxB Signal Studio application can be used to evaluate waveforms and then activated on the waveform 5-pack licensed instrument

Question:

Once a waveform is licensed, can it be copied and stored for archival purposes?

Answer:

Yes, a licensed waveform can be copied and renamed for archival purposes.  Be aware that the waveform can still only played on the ESG or MXG to which it has been licensed.

Question:

Is there any protection against accidentally overwriting a licensed waveform?

Answer:

No, we recommend keeping a copy of the licensed waveform for archival purposes.

Question:

Since a waveform can be copied and renamed, is there protection from a user inadvertently licensing the same signal?

Answer:

Yes, there is protection against using a license slot on a redundant signal.  A unique identifier is associated and stored with each signal created by Signal Studio applications.  It is this identifier that is licensed on the MXG or ESG signal generator.  The waveform 5-pack license firmware will not allow the same identifier to be licensed twice.

Question:

Is there a way to have password protection against licensing a 5-pack waveform to prevent someone from inadvertently using up a license slot?

Answer:

No, this will be considered as an enhancement request for future releases.

Question:

Is there a grace-period where I can still revoke/replace a waveform once it has been licensed?

Answer:

Once the waveform is licensed, that license is permanent and cannot be revoked or replaced.
