Introduction of Keysight B2900 Family

The Keysight B2900 Series Precision Bench-top Instrument Family includes several different source and measurement solutions. It currently consists of the Precision Source/Measure Units (SMUs), the Precision Low Noise Power Sources and the Femto / Picoammeters and Electrometers / High Resistance Meters. The B2900 Family provides best-in-class source and measurement performance along with other powerful capabilities. In addition it has broad applications that cover the range from R&D and education to industrial development, production test and automated manufacturing. They also work equally well as either standalone or system components.

B2900B Series Precision Source Measure Unit (SMU): Cost effective source/measurement solutions offer superior performance and a best-in-class graphical user interface for bench-top IV (current versus voltage) characterization

The Keysight B2901BL/B2910BL/B2901B/B2902B/B2911B/B2912B Precision Source/Measure Units are compact and cost-effective bench-top Source/Measure Units (SMUs) with the capability to source and measure both voltage and current. The Keysight B2900B Series of SMUs provide best-in-class performance for a modest price. They have broad voltage (± 210 V) and current (± 3 A DC and ± 10.5 A pulsed) sourcing capability, excellent precision (minimum 10 fA/100 nV sourcing and measuring resolution) and possess a superior color LCD graphical user interface (GUI). In addition, several task-based viewing modes dramatically improve productivity for test, debug and characterization. The Keysight B2900B Series offers unmatched measurement throughput and supports conventional SMU SCPI commands for easy test code migration. These features improve efficiency and lower the cost of ownership when integrating the SMUs into systems for production test. These capabilities make the B2900B Series ideal for a wide variety of IV (current versus voltage) measurement tasks that require both high resolution and accuracy.

Performing IV measurements with conventional instruments such as voltage/current sources, arbitrary waveform generators (AWGs), switches and voltage/current meters is complicated and confusing. It requires deep technical knowledge of both the measurement technique and the instrumentation to perform an accurate measurement.

The Keysight B2900B SMU integrates many different source and measurement capabilities into one compact form factor. It can operate as a seamless 4-quadrant precision voltage/current source, an electrical load, an accurate voltage/current meter, a pulse generator and an AWG. Its versatile all-in-one integrated source and measurement capabilities allow it to perform a wide variety of measurements from DC to low frequency AC without the need to change connections or use additional equipment.

The Keysight B2961B/B2962B 6.5 Digit Low Noise Power Sources are a next-generation power supplies/sources offering 6.5 digit best-in-class precision, wide and bipolar output ranges of 100 nV to 210 A/10 fA to 10.5 A and extremely low noise of 10 µVrms and 1 nVrms/√Hz (at 10 kHz). It also offers other innovative features such as graphing capability and arbitrary waveform generating capability (10 mHz to 10 kHz), which allow tests and evaluation that conventional power supply/sources cannot do. The Keysight B2981A/B2983A Femto / Picoammeters and B2985A/B2987A Electrometers / High Resistance Meters not only offer best-in-class measurement performance, but also provide unprecedented features to maximize your measurement confidence. The Femto / Picoammeters and Electrometers both offer 0.01 fA (0.01 x 10-15 A) minimum current resolution, which meets virtually all existing and future low-level current measurement needs. The Electrometers feature a 1,000 V voltage sourcing capability that supports up to 10 PΩ (10 x 1015 Ω) resistance measurements. The Electrometers also work with Keysight’s well-proven high resistance meter accessories. Both of the Femto / Picoammeter and Electrometer have battery powered versions to eliminate AC power line noise. This available capability provides an unmatched level of noise reduction, enabling low-level measurements that were previously impossible.

Unlike conventional picoammeters and electrometers, the B2980A series possesses a 4.3” color LCD-based graphical user interface (GUI) that provides multiple options for viewing data. In addition to numeric format, data can also be viewed as a graph, as a histogram and as a trend chart. These unique front-panel capabilities facilitate the capture of transient behavior and provide the ability to make quick statistical analyses without the need for a PC.

The B2980A series also has features to help you maintain measurement integrity on the external cabling and fixturing. The available Setup Integrity Checker software permits the comparison of noise levels for different cabling and fixturing arrangements, allowing you to identify and isolate the noise-sensitive areas in your measurement system.

In addition to these impressive measurement capabilities, the B2980A series has easy-to-use and convenient measurement assist functions that permit users with limited or no electrical engineering training to perform complicated electrical characterization operations with ease.
