How to Run the Frame Relay Auto User LMI Test

(Previous models only)

UPDATE: As of 11.4 the Advisor features automatic LMI emulation. The user selects one of the 3 LMI types, so there is no "Auto User LMI Test" available through the startup menu.

Select the Frame Relay Auto User LMI test from either the Start menu in the Windows desktop or from the Simulate folder in the Configuration view.

In the Simulate folder (in the Configuration view), define the following parameters:

  • Polling Count
  • Polling Interval

Open the Simulate Results view so that when you start the test you can see messages displayed that correspond to the LMI messaging that occurs between the Internet Advisor and the network.

Click the Start tool bar button to start the Auto User LMI test. The Internet Advisor will determine the LMI version detected on the network, and will then perform keep-alive polling (including Full Status Report requests). Messages associated with this activity will be displayed in the Simulate Results view. You can also see LMI messages in the Decode view and you can see counts of specific messages in the Filters/Counters Statistics view.

You can pause the display during the test by clicking the Freeze tool bar button (simulation and data capture will continue). You can stop the Auto User LMI test by clicking the Stop tool bar button. With the test stopped, you can save the buffer (including the text that was displayed in the Simulation Results view) to file. This can include the configuration settings as well.

During post-process analysis (step 5), you can print or export the text that appears in the Simulate Results view as well as the statistics and decoded frames from the other measurement views.
