Keysight's Rick Eads Re-Elected to PCI-SIG® Board of Directors

Re-election announced during PCI-SIG Developer Conference 2024 being held in Santa Clara

Keysight Principal Program Manager for PCI Express® (PCIe®) and Computer I/O Technologies Rick Eads was re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Peripheral Component Interconnect Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG®) for the 2024-2025 term. PCI-SIG is an industry association of 900+ companies committed to advancing the non-proprietary peripheral component interconnect (PCI) technology and PCIe® standard.

PCI-SIG members are top contributors to the PCIe technology, a computer input / output (I/O) interface that is employed on next-generation electronic devices and systems. Keysight is the only test and measurement company serving on the PCI-SIG Board and contributes directly to revisions of the PCIe specification.

"Keysight has successfully contributed to the PCIe standard during the last 20 years and my re-election reinforces the fact that we are members of the larger design-test ecosystem," said Eads, who is the strategic technical leader of Keysight's PCIe solutions.

Eads actively contributes to the development of the PCIe physical layer BASE, CEM, and Test specifications and has led electrical Gold Suite testing at PCI-SIG workshops worldwide since 2004. This role represents an opportunity for Keysight to continue contributing to this important standard while also aligning Keysight solutions to the testing needs of emerging technology waves.

“Driving all essential standards to enable and support the industry is a key element of our strategy”, said Dr. Joachim Peerlings, Vice President of Network and Data Center Solutions at Keysight. “Rick’s re-election to the PCI-SIG board of directors is another acknowledgement showcasing Keysight’s strong leadership position within the standard landscape.”

In addition, Eads believes serving on the PCI-SIG board will play an important role in moving AI and Machine Learning (ML) applications forward with PCIe 7.0 technology. “The rapid deployment of AI accelerators for use in compute arrays has driven the demand for higher speed PCIe technology based, system-to-system interfaces,” he said. “Advances in the technology like PCIe 7.0 specification enhance AI applications by optimizing data transfer, storage, and scalability, positioning the PCIe standard as an important element within the AI ecosystem.”

Dr. Peerlings points out that the PCIe standard will propel the use of AI technology. “The development of the next PCIe technology plays a pivotal role in the enablement of the disruptive AI technology, as higher speed PCIe chip-to-chip interfaces are required,” he said.

PCI-SIG Developer Conference 2024 Highlights

The re-election will be officially announced during the PCI-SIG Developer Conference, which is being held June 12 and 13 in Santa Clara, Calif. Keysight is the largest single vendor for PCIe 6.0 pre-PHY testing and will present its solutions at the show, including:

  • Enablement of PCIe 7.0 Technology – Demonstrates the Keysight PCI Express 7.0 transmitter and receiver test solutions and test automation software, enabling early pathfinding and accelerated delivery of PCIe 7.0 silicon.
  • PCIe 6.0 Protocol Solution – Showcases the new Keysight P5570A PCIe 6.0 analyzer and P5573A PCIe 6.0 exerciser debugging PCIe 6.0 protocol traffic on a live PCIe 6.0 link using advanced triggers and filters while emulating both root complex and endpoint scenarios.
  • PCIe Simulation Tool – Provides an overview of PCIe Designer, a new simulation tool in Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS) that enables users to run all of the PCIe simulations they need in a single environment. PCIe Designer offers bit-by-bit and statistical simulations, like a traditional channel simulator, as well as SEASIM integration that allows users to perform SEASIM and channel sim simulations seamlessly.
