This application note provides an overview of dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) implications for mobile network operators. It introduces a Keysight solution for DSS end-to-end testing and performance verification.

 

DSS is a set of features and techniques defined in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications to dynamically share the existing Long Term Evolution (LTE) spectrum with 5G New Radio (NR), as illustrated in Figure 1. The base station’s packet scheduler allocates the resources between LTE and NR based on the load conditions in both network layers. Scheduling resolution depends on the implementation. Resolution in real implementations will likely reach the transmission time interval (TTI) level - 1 millisecond (ms).
