3070 Codeword-to-License Conversion
Background
Beginning with 3070 software revision 05.30 Keysight has transitioned from a codeword to a license model for software activation. This applies to both Unix and MS Windows based 3070 systems. Prior to revision 05.30, software was activated by adding codeword(s) to a file called the .enable (dot-enable) file. There was a unique codeword for each software feature available on a 3070 system. These codeword(s) were provided by way of a Software License Certificate that would list the software purchased along with the codeword(s). This certificate also represented "proof of ownership" of the software features purchased.
Beginning with revision 05.30, the software is activated by installing a license file on the 3070 system. This license file is tied to the MAC address of the 3070 system controller. The first step required to move to 05.30 is to load the Keysight Software License database with the existing software options installed on the 3070 system. This procedure is accomplished with the Codeword-to-License Conversion process. Once the database has been loaded, the license Redemption, Activation, Validation and Installation processes can be completed. This document will just discuss the Codeword-to-License Conversion process.
Note: Completing the Codeword-to-License Conversion process does not require installation of revision 05.30 software.
Description of Codeword-to-License Conversion
The Codeword-to-License Conversion process requires the customer to have a 05.30 Software Entitlement Certificate for each 3070 system. This certificate is included with the 05.30 software update kit that is obtained through a software update service contract or the purchase of a 3070 one-time software update. The certificate contains information needed to complete the conversion process. Each certificate is unique and can only be used for a single conversion. If a customer does not have a 05.30 Software Entitlement Certificate for a given system then they cannot complete the conversion process for that system.
After January 1, 2005, customers will not be able to complete the conversion process on their own. In addition to the 05.30 Software Entitlement Certificate and the .enable file, customers will be required to provide Keysight proof of ownership of the existing/installed codeword(s). Keysight will then complete the conversion process, which will allow the customer to proceed with the license redemption/installation process.
Proof of Ownership of Codeword(s)
Any one of these three types of proof of ownership will be considered acceptable:
- Software License Certificate (Certificate): This is the unique Certificate (pre-05.30) that has codeword information.
- Purchase Order (PO): This PO or other software agreement would need to show an itemized list of software features the customer purchased for the system that they would like to entitle.
- Signed Letter by Management (Letter): This letter, on company letterhead, would outline all the features that the customer believes they are entitled to receive for each system, by serial number, and would need to be signed by management at that company location.
Note: If the .enable file is from a 3070 system purchased from the open market (used), then Keysight may, at its discretion, choose to not accept the Letter as proof of ownership of the codeword(s). One of the other forms of proof may be required in this case.
