Smarter OCR, a Modern Gateway, and an AI Assistant That Writes With You

We're excited to share what's new in Eggplant since our last release update in May. Across Eggplant Functional, Eggplant Gateway, Eggplant Studio, and Eggplant Server (DAI), this release is about three things that make your day-to-day testing easier: sharper OCR, stronger security, and a virtual assistant that helps you write SenseTalk scripts faster.

Here’s what’s new.

Eggplant Studio: An AI Assistant That Writes SenseTalk With You

The Virtual Assistant in Eggplant Studio can now generate SenseTalk scripts for you directly. It connects to the SenseTalk Browser through our MCP tools and applies built-in best practice, favouring OCR-based commands over coordinate clicks, for example, so the scripts it writes hold up well over time. Whether you're new to SenseTalk or just want to move faster, the assistant gives you a strong starting point, with more capability on the way in future updates.

Studio also introduces an OCR Diagnostics Tool that automatically works through a series of fixes for you, from adjusting recognition settings to fine-tuning search areas, making it fast and straightforward to move to latest ABBYY.

You'll also find Compare Screen and the StartMovie / StopMovie commands now available directly in Studio (Eggplant Functional 26.3.0 or later required), along with a set of smaller but useful additions: image collections in the File Explorer, a quick toggle between classic and latest ABBYY, multi-result Find Text, and Omega13 support. Together, they make Studio an even more complete place to build and run your tests.

A Sharper, More Accurate OCR Engine

Reading text off a screen reliably, across every UI you can throw at it, takes real engineering. This release brings the latest ABBYY OCR engine, version 12.8, to Eggplant Functional, with noticeable gains in both speed and accuracy.

You can opt in to Latest ABBYY whenever you're ready. Your existing scripts keep working exactly as they do today, so you're in control of when you make the switch, and once you do, you can expect more reliable text recognition even on the trickiest interfaces.

A Modern, Secure Gateway

Eggplant Gateway now runs on a modernized RDP client that's continuously updated to meet today's security standards, giving you a safer, more dependable connection out of the box.

It also adds SSL encryption for RDP traffic across the network, so you can meet strict security requirements without extra configuration. If your organization needs tight security sign-off before adopting new tools, this update is designed to make that approval straightforward.

Native Test Management Integration for Azure DevOps

Eggplant Server (DAI) now offers a native integration with Azure DevOps, set up directly through the DAI interface. Test results publish automatically after every run, with flexible field mapping so they line up with however your team already tracks work in Azure DevOps.

Test results also now include Git information, so you can see exactly which repository and branch a run belongs to, and filter your results the same way. If you manage your scripts in Git, this makes it much easier to connect a test result to the change that produced it.
