Keysight Eggplant: AI-Powered Testing and Enterprise Upgrades
We're thrilled to share what the Eggplant team has been working on over the past quarter. Across Eggplant Functional, Studio, DAI, Gateway, Generator, and Monitoring, this has been one of our most packed release cycles yet – with a common thread running through all of it: making it easier, smarter, and more secure to test anything, through the eyes of a human.
Here's what's new.
Test Any UI with Natural Language – Introducing Find by Description
The headline capability of this quarter is “Find by Description”, available in Eggplant Functional 26.2.
Eggplant has always been built on the principle that you should be able to test anything a human can see – without needing accessibility trees, DOM access, or rigid image templates. Find by Description takes that vision further. Simply describe a UI element in plain English and Eggplant utilizes multi-modal AI to do the rest.
Instead of capturing and maintaining image assets or relying on optical character recognition, you can now write something like "the basic details tab at the bottom of the screen" or "the closest open restaurant on the map" and Eggplant will locate it. This capability is powered by Claude (Anthropic's multimodal models) running via AWS Bedrock or the Anthropic Cloud.
The practical benefits are significant: less time maintaining fragile image libraries, natural language scripts that read like human test cases, and the ability to handle dynamic, complex UIs that have historically been difficult to automate – maps with moving elements, game UIs, live flight tracking overlays, and more.
A dedicated configuration UI for Find by Description is included in 26.2.1, making it straightforward to connect to your chosen LLM provider and get started. We'll continue expanding model support beyond the current Anthropic/Bedrock options based on customer demand.
Eggplant Studio: More Power, Less Friction
Connect and disconnect commands in SenseTalk scripts now run fully in Studio, removing a challenge for customers whose test suites relied on programmatic connection management (requires EPF 26.2.0+).
Find Text brings text-based OCR scripting into Studio's assisted scripting menu for the first time. You can now switch between image and text-based scripting with a single toggle – no shift key needed – and choose between full-screen and search-rectangle modes, with SenseTalk coordinates automatically inserted into your output. This is particularly useful for test teams that have been working primarily with OCR-based automation.
Custom Snippets are now available directly from Studio's SenseTalk browser. Snippets can be saved as user or suite level, browsed, edited, and deleted without leaving Studio. You can bookmark any snippet, including custom ones, for quick access from a dedicated category at the top of the SenseTalk browser.
For users who found navigating VS Code settings daunting, there's now a dedicated Eggplant settings panel that surfaces Eggplant-relevant settings in one place – covering both Studio-specific options and Fusion Engine run settings. This is the first iteration of the panel, with more settings being migrated across in upcoming releases.
RHEL 9 and Ubuntu 24 support has also been added to Studio, so if you're supporting Linux-based test environments, this is worth exploring now.
Stronger Security by Default
DAI 26.2.1 moves to HTTPS-only server connections. HTTP is no longer supported. This change aligns with the EU Cyber Resiliency Act and ensures compatibility with Keycloak, our identity and access management system. Customers upgrading existing HTTP-based DAI installations will be guided through the reconfiguration process – with detailed documentation covering certificate requirements and setup steps available on the installation pages. On the connectivity side, Eggplant now supports connecting to SUTs via Microsoft's RD Gateway. This allows Remote Desktop Protocol connections to cross firewalls via a proxy – without requiring a full VPN connection into your network.
The modern Gateway-based RDP implementation is also now the default in EPF 26.2.0, with improved color rendering and performance fixes for Windows 11, ensuring all connections benefit from up-to-date, CVE-free dependencies.
Test Management Integration with Xray Cloud and Spaces
For teams already working within Jira, DAI 26.1 introduced a native Xray Cloud integration. Test results are automatically published to Xray after execution, with flexible field mapping to align with your existing Jira and Xray setup. Configuration is handled directly through the DAI UI.
Spaces, introduced in DAI last month, gives enterprise teams a long-requested organizational layer. Teams can now group test assets – models, configs, suites, results – into distinct workspaces with role-based access control. Users only see the workspaces they're permitted to access, roles can differ across workspaces, and the need to spin up multiple DAI instances purely for access separation is eliminated.
Generator now includes a dedicated license management page, giving administrators a single place to view, assign, and deactivate licenses without raising a support ticket. If you manage Generator deployments for multiple teams, this one will save time immediately.
Monitor Your AI Infrastructure with MCP Server Support
Eggplant Monitoring has added support for MCP (Model Context Protocol) server monitoring. MCP servers sit at the heart of modern AI infrastructure – they're the layer that connects large language models to the data sources and tools they need to function. Without reliable MCP servers, AI-powered services fail.
With this new capability, you can build monitoring journeys that query MCP server tools, verify response content with phrase checks, and track performance and availability over time – all from the same monitoring portal you already use for web applications and APIs. Alerts, performance metrics, and response payload inspection are all supported.
