  Installation Instructions for Signametrics Digital Multimeter or Switching Card
  for Online Software Distribution
    
  Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000 and XP

  It is important that the hardware is installed, then the driver, and then the 
  software package.  If reinstalling the software, uninstall the existing 
  software before installing the new software.  


  1.0 Getting the Software:
  ---------------------------

  1.1 Downloading
      The software packages for various Signametrics Products can be located online at 
      http://www.signametrics.com/software/
      The software is also located on a Signametrics CD that came with the product.  

  1.2 Uncompressing
      The software packages are compressed as .zip files.  Windows XP will automatically 
      uncompress these files by right clicking on the .zip file and selecting 
      "Extract All".  Older systems will need to install a utility such as WinZip 
      to decompress the file.        

  1.3 Important
      Do Not run the install.exe to install the software until After the hardware has 
      been installed (section 2) and the drivers have been installed (section 3).



  2.0 Hardware Installation:
  ---------------------------
  
  2.1 Turn off the computer and disconnect it's power cord.

  2.2 Insert the Signametrics hardware into a vacant PCI/PXI slot.

  2.3 Secure the Signametrics harware with the bracket screw to the chassis.

  2.4 Power up the computer.  A "Found New Hardware" Wizard dialog box should appear.  



  3.0 Driver Installation:
  -------------------------
 
  3.1 In the "Found New Hardware" dialog that comes up after booting up, 
      point the system to the .INF file located among the files downloaded 
      and uncompressed in section one.  It should be named after the product 
      you are installing, for example, "SM2044.inf".  

  3.2 If no "Found New Hardware" dialog comes up, you can do the following:
      go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.  
      Right click the new hardware device and select properties.  
      Select the Driver Tab, and the click "Install Driver".



  4.0 Software Installation:
  ---------------------------

  4.1 The software can also be installed by running the "setup.exe" included in the 
      downloaded and uncompressed files. 

  4.2 If the Visual Basic run-time system (MSVBVM50.DLL) is not installed
      on your system, you will need to install it to run the Front Panel.  The Visual Basic 
      run-time installation can be downloaded off of the signametrics website.
