What is the 33220A Firmware Revision?

The latest firmware revision for the 33220A depends upon the serial number of the unit.

• For units with MY43XXXXXX/SG43XXXXXX serial numbers, the firmware revision is 1.08.
• For units with MY44XXXXXX/SG44XXXXXX serial numbers, the firmware revision is 2.07

Firmware revision 2.07 contains the following changes:

• Increases speed and reliability of rotary encoder knob

To check the serial number of your unit:

• Turn on the 33220A
• Press the UTILITY key, then the “I/O” softkey (blue)
• Select "Show USB Id". The display will show a string similar to
  “USB ID = usb0::2391:1031::MY43001234::INSTR”
• The underlined portion will be the serial number of the unit.

Procedure to install 33220A Firmware Revision

Note: Some instrument I/O configurations may be lost, but may be reset. It is always recommended that firmware not be updated at critical project stages to eliminate any risk of problems resulting from the update.

1. Download and install the Keysight Firmware Update Utility located in the Documents & Downloads section at the bottom of this page. If you already have the Firmware Update Utility installed on your computer, skip this step.
2. Download the correct Keysight 33220A Firmware Revision file located in the Documents & Downloads section at the bottom of this page.
3. Unzip the Keysight 33220A Firmware Revision file, making note of where you store the unzipped file.
4. Open the Firmware Update Utility (Start -> Programs -> Keysight -> Firmware Update Utility).
5. Click Next.
6. Click Browse and locate the firmware update file that you unzipped in step 3. Highlight the file and select Open. (The file name is either agt33220_romFirmware_108.xs or agt33220_rom_instrument_207.xs)
7. Click Next.
8. Select the I/O interface (GPIB, LAN, or USB) that connects your 33220A Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator to your PC.
9. Choose the settings necessary for communication (GPIB address, IP address, USB ID).
10. Click Update. NOTE: This update will take several minutes and the 33220A will display status messages and automatically reboot when completed. DO NOT cycle or interrupt power to the 33220A during the update process.
11. After this is completed, exit the update utility.
12. Check for any errors. Press the HELP key then select the topic entitled “View the remote command error queue” (topic number 2). Then press the SELECT softkey (blue) to view errors in the error queue. If there are errors that you need assistance with, please write them down and contact Keysight for further assistance.

Note: There is no need to re-calibrate the 33220A when this new firmware is installed.
