How do I use my 1680/1690/16900-series logic analyzer without entering a username and password?

By default, the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems in these machines require users to log in with a user name and password. You may wish to change this behavior to make the analyzer more easily accessible to yourself and others. This is possible if your analyzer is not a member of a Windows domain.

Follow this procedure to remove the login prompt from the Windows startup sequence. You can determine your version of Windows by clicking Start | Run and entering the winver command.

Windows XP machines

  1. Click Start | Run and type sysdm.cpl. Click OK.
  2. Click the Computer Name tab.
  3. Look under "Full computer name:". If you see "Workgroup:", your machine does not belong to a domain and you may proceed to step 4. If you see "Domain:", click Change... and select "Workgroup:" under "Member of". You will need to name a workgroup (this can be an arbitrary name). Please be aware that leaving a domain may limit your access to certain network resources. Reboot your machine if prompted.
  4. Click Start | Run and type control userpasswords2. Click OK.
  5. Clear the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box and click Apply.
  6. Enter the user name and password for the account to which Windows will automatically log on upon startup. The default account is Administrator with a blank password.
  7. Click OK twice. The next time you reboot you should not be prompted for a user name or password.
