How do I upgrade my PSA Series Spectrum Analyzer?
The Keysight family of Spectrum Analyzers offers a wide range of upgrade paths. Some of the upgrades involve measurement software for specific one-button applications while others involve hardware installation.
Software upgrades are normally measurement personalities. Many of the measurement personalities are application specific and require additional hardware options as well. In most cases, the software option is available via a firmware upgrade and activated by the license key.
Basic hardware upgrades kits contain installation instructions and the desired assembly. Other hardware upgrades require the instrument to be taken apart for the upgrade to be added to the instrument. Adjustments or performance verifications are then required to ensure the instrument meets the published specifications. The instrument may need to be shipped to an Keysight Service Center to have the upgrade installed. Make sure to obtain a quote for the installation before bringing the instrument and upgrade kit to an Keysight Service Center to get installed.
Both software and hardware upgrades require a minimum firmware already be installed. Up to date firmware can be downloaded free from the PSA Firmware Upgrade Center.
Some hardware upgrades and most software upgrades will also require the redemption and installation of a license key before they will be activated. Once a redemption certificate is received, the license key(s) for the option can be redeemed at the Keysight Software License Redemption Web Site.
The upgrades listed below do not work on all Spectrum Analyzers. Find the serial prefix on the Spectrum Analyzers to determine if it is compatible. The serial prefix is the first six characters of the serial number.
Before deciding on an upgrade to your spectrum analyzer, you should consider the following:
- Does installing the upgrade require adjustment, performance testing, or special test equipment?
- Who can install the upgrade? Can a customer install it or can it only happen at a Keysight Service Center?
- Are there any compatibility issues with other upgrades?
- Does the upgrade option require a license key to enable the functionality?
