What should I do if the system user alignment of my PSA EMI Measurement Receiver fails?

If the system is configured properly there are three typical reasons why the user alignment could fail. They are:

  1. Communication with either the preselector or signal source cannot be established
  2. RF Alignment source is not connected to the "CAL SOURCE IN" on the N9039A RF Preselector
  3. The level of the alignment signal being measured is below -50dBm
  4. The I/O timeout for the Preselector is set too short. It should not be any shorter than the default of 10 seconds. This can be set on the PSA at: Mode Setup > Config EMI Receiver > Presel Config

If the alignment fails first make sure that all of the possible causes listed above are not the cause of the problem. Also, be sure that the PSA internal alignment will successfully complete by itself by pressing System->Alignments->Align All Now. If the problem still persists make sure that there is no incompatibility with the software versions in both the PSA and the N9039A RF Preselector.

If the user alignment continues to fail default the system alignment data by pressing Mode Setup->Align RF Presel->Restore Presel Align Default->Restore Presel Align Default and then try running the alignment again.
