Serial Data Interface is an important video application. This UDA allows you to test SDI with your Infiniium oscilloscope.

To run this application, first you need to unzip the package.

Then you need to unzip the "install_Example.SDI" on your oscilloscope and then instal the "setup_Example.SDI.exe" on your oscilloscope.

You need to copy the SDI_Compliance.exe file in a created directory: C:/UDA/

You also need to copy all the files from the "Release" directory into a created C:/scope/UDA/Release directory on your oscilloscope.

After you install the file there you will need to install the setup_SDI.exe on your oscilloscope. You then need close and open your Infiniium application.

You can find the 75 ohm adaptor through Agilent.

Hi,

Thanks for your SDI tool. I am Tristen Tan a distributor in Australia Sydney. Please advise if you have any tools to work on MPEG to 45Mhz G.703 on ASI? Is there a replacement from Agilent for Tek VM700T? Do you have any tools for SDI reciever test? Thanks.

Hi,

One more question from me is am I am able to used the new MSO9404A to perform the SD-SDI (270Mbps) and HD-SDI (1.485 Gbps) test? Thanks.

Yes you can use the new MSO9404A to test SD-SDI (270Mbps) and HD-SDI (1.485 Gbps). The 4GHz of bandwidth is more than enough. You can also use any 90000A Series oscilloscope above 2.5 GHz and take advantage of its industry best noise floor.

For receiver testing, right now I know a j-Bert A model with option C07 and J10 combined with a VNA will work.

Thanks alot. Can the MSO9404A do 3G-SDI (2.97Gbps) as well? Do you have any demo or customer presentation documents for the reciever test as well? I would like to do a proposal to my customer in Australia. Lastly, do you think we have any solution for MPEG to 45Mhz ingest and output on ASI over G.703 protocol? Thanks.

3G SDI will be too much data for the MSO9404A. You could probably do a little bit of testing, but that is a bandwidth point that you really need the 90000A Series and at least 6 GHz.

Thanks. I have tried running the SDI Apps on my MSO9254A with the Trex and it works find. I will be using the Mask Communication kit to perfrom G.703 test however, I am not sure of MPEG-2 and Digital Audio test. Cheers.

If I hear of anyone developing anything MPEG-2 related. I will post it. Right now, I don't know of anything.

Hi Baasay,

I have run throught the SDI automated compliance software over the MSO9404A with the T-REX 2.5Gbps PRBS generator. However. the Vpp failed and also the eye pattern seems to be half way above the screen.

1 FAIL CH1 Peak-to-peak amplitude (Vpp) 290mV -268.8 % 720mV <= VALUE <= 880mV
1 FAIL CH1 Jitter 18.77440UI -616E+01 % VALUE <= 300.000mUI

I am using a BNC to SMA 50Ohms cable and I have followed your instruction to set the scaleing to -3.7dB and -1V offset on the MSO9404A probe section.

I have also tried the SDI on the DSA91304A and the eyepattern is exactly at the center of the screen. However there are stills some failure as well.

1 FAIL CH1 Peak-to-peak amplitude (Vpp) 610mV -68.8 % 720mV <= VALUE <= 880mV
1 FAIL CH1 Jitter 2.653000UI -784.3 % VALUE <= 300.000mUI
1 FAIL CH1 offset (Offset) 736.100mV -23.6 % -500.000mV <= VALUE <= 500.000mV

If you can provide me with your email I should be able to send you both the MSO9404A and DSA91304A SDI report. Most critical will be the MSO9404A which I have tried adjustting the probe scaling but it still do not work . Please advise. tahnks.

Tristen,

The SDI app is an attempt to automate measurements that you should also be making manually.

Have you looked at the waveform outside of the SDI application? What is the pk-to-pk voltage value that you are seeing, when you put some markers on it?

What is the TRex 2.5 Gb generator that you are using? If it's what I think, it is not producing SDI data, but something more like PCI Express Gen1. I think that Brig's instructions are supposed to apply to a true SDI link.
