TRM Cal Kit on ENA

Has anyone successfully entered a TRM Cal Kit onto the E5071C ENA or similar analyzer? I have been successful with the PNA using the PNA Calkit editor, but I am having difficulty with the ENA. Also, the same situation exists for Short, Offset Short, Load Cal. I have done it with the PNA and I get good results, but I cannot seem to get it right on the ENA.

Is there any 3rd party software editor available that is similar to the PNA Cal Kit editor or VNA Cal Kit manager?

I find working on the PNA very easy and friendly (even the 8753 and 8510 were not that difficult), but the ENA is very confusing to me.

Thanks,

David

There is an example already on the analyzer-

Use the predefined 85052C calibration kit. This is a 3.5mm TRL kit. Below 2GHz, the kit uses load standards instead of lines. So, TRM is implemented in this frequency range.

If there is still a problem, you could post your exported .ckx file and we can take a look at it...

The latest firmware also includes quite a few waveguide kits that implement the short, offset short, load, thru calibration.

I have been experimenting with the TRM Kit first. I seems I have been able to modify it correctly and I get the same results as I see on the PNA and also with my rudimentary SOLT kit on both PNA and ENA.

However, When choosing the Reflect mode, you have the option of choosing port 1 and port 2 independently for the Short standard. For the Loads, it seems like it is set up to act the same way as a THRU. This is OK for TRL but creates a problem fro TRM. What I mean is only 1 click is needed (either port 1 or port 2 will apparently measure both ports) but I cannot get it to do both ports independently like the short. That means the shorts must be connected simultaneously on both ports. If the ports are mateable, then that is fine as the kit has 1 of each (male and female), but if I want to "swap adapters", then the usual way I was taught to do it was after the thru part of the cal, I then swap the apdapter for the reflection part. At least, that is what I have always done with SOLT cals and it works well. That means I need 2 of the same sex loads in the kit. I hope this is clear.

I tried to upload the cal kit but the Forum will not allow the extension and it won't allow any other extension I put on it or it tells me the file is empty.

Thanks,

David

The load should be added to the "TRL Line/Match" class.

Start a "2 port TRL" calibration on ports 1 and 2, and click on "Line/Match", you will be offered 3 softkeys:
1-2 Line/Match
1-2 Fwd (S21)
1-2 Rvs (S12)

The first choice measures in both forward and reverse directions.
The second choice measure ONLY in the forward direction (load on PORT1).
The third choice measure ONLY in the reverse direction (load on PORT2).

If you press the first key, this is the only measurement you need.

If you use the other keys, you must make both the forward and also reverse choices so all the required measurements are made. You don't ever have to press all 3 keys - this would give you redundant data. I think the idea is that people using only Line standards will be able to make forward/reverse measurements at once (first key). But, if you are using a Match standard, you can connect one port at a time (second and third keys).

This is the way the 85052C kit works on my analyzer (A.09.50 firmware).

The Reflect menu only shows you forward and reverse choices, there is no option to measure both with one key press.

Thanks very much. I am using the same firmware level. I saw those choices but didn't understand why they were all there. This helps alot.
