anyone know where to find a service manual for 8564e or 8565e? ec will work as well. I need to know the values and procedure to realign the sytf for the 8565e to 50 ghz. I know how to do it for 8563e but there is no documentation online for the 8565e. what gives?
You require the factory software to align the RHYTHM assembly. Are you having a problem with the RF power above 2.9 GHz low? If it is more than 3 dB your RHYTHM requires repair/replacement. Performing the adjustment may get the flatness in specification, but you will most likely fail Displayed Average Noise Level. This is a common failure. That model is no longer supported by Agilent at this time. We can fix the module if it is bad. You can contact me offline.
(For service manuals that were sold we don't post them to the web for free download until after the product has been discontinued. Since the 8564E and 8565E shared a service manual with the 8564EC and 8565EC they had not yet been available free, but the EC models were just discontinued June 1st, so you can now get them)
This manual is the one that we last shipped hardcopies of, and is for the 8564E/EC and 8565E/EC, and it has not been updated since 2001. There is also an 8564EC / 8565EC specific version that was updated in 2010, but was never printed, which can be found here:
As to your problem with the filter alignment, there is no manual adjustment for this in the service guide, it can only be done by an automated procedure, which requires software running on an old HP 9000 series controller, along with an 85629B test and adjustment module. The software can be downloaded from the following URL, but the hardware needed is usually the problem.
What is the problem that you are seeing? A lower signal level than expected? Have you tried using the AMPLITUDE, PRESEL AUTO PEAK function to see if the signal level will come up to the expected level? If it's just a case of the filter not properly aligned this peaking (centering) of the filter should help. If it's just a centering issue and you are not able to run the adjustment one of the Agilent service centers should be able to help.
