Agilent IVI-COM Components 1.0.2.3

This installation package installs components which are necessary for
the successful installation of an Agilent IVI-COM driver. Running this
single package is generally more convenient than downloading and
installing several packages from different sources.
It also installs several files which make using Agilent IVI-COM
drivers more convenient in some programming environments.
You need to run this installation package only once. Then the
installation of individual Agilent IVI-COM drivers will proceed
more smoothly.
Installation
-------------
System Requirements - This installation will check for the following
requirements. If not found, the installer will either abort, warn, or
install the required component as appropriate.
Supported Operating Systems:
Windows 98 SE
Windows NT 4.0 (SP6 or later)
Windows 2000
Windows XP
If the computer is not running one of these operating systems, the
installation will abort. These are the operating systems supported
by IVI-COM drivers.
Windows Installer (MSI) Version 2.0 or later
The installer appropriate for your operating system is
automatically installed.
You can download Windows Installer 2.0 by going to:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/
and then searching for MSI 2.0. Download the versin appropriate
for your operating system.
Microsoft Windows Script
An Agilent IVI-COM driver installation uses Microsoft Windows
Script to install and register the driver. This package will
install version 5.6. The installation will not continue without
the windows script being installed.
A later version of the Microsoft Windows Script may be available
from:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/
where you can then search for Windows Script.
Agilent VISA-COM
An Agilent IVI-COM driver cannot be installed without an
implementation of VISA-COM being already installed. Any compliant
implementation is acceptable, but one is required for instrument
I/O. Agilent drivers may require VISA-COM for simulation mode as
well.
If no implementation of VISA-COM is found on your computer,
this package will offer to install Agilent's VISA-COM version
M.01.00.02. The installation will not continue without VISA-COM
being installed.

Agilent's IO Libaries require Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.
You can dowload Internet Explorer by going to:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/
where you can then search for Internet Explorer.
IVI Shared Components Version 1.0.4.0 or later.
If the IVI Shared Components are not present, you will be asked
whether to install them. The installation will not continue
without them being installed.
This installation package includes the version 1.0.4.0 of IVI Shared
Components. A later version may be available from:

.NET Primary Interop Assemblies
If your computer has the .NET Framework installed, the installer
will offer to install primary interop assemblies for the IVI
instrument class type libraries and other shared components. These
assemblies are necessary for the proper operation of IVI-COM
drivers with .NET.
If you have already installed the Agilent T&M Toolkit, the IVI
primary interop assemblies are already properly installed and
registered.
The installation will continue even if you do not install the IVI
primary interop assemblies.
IVI Compiled Help
In order for context sensitive help, F1, to work for IVI defined
type libraries, the help files must be in the same directory as
the IVI instrumentclass type libraries. This installer places help
files for the IVI instrument class type libraries in the Bin
directory.
Additional Include Files
Writing C programs which use COM servers requires header files
derived from the servers type library. IVI supplies these header
files for the instrument class type libraries and drivers supply
them for their type libraries. They are missing, however, for
VISA-COM. This installer puts these additional header files into
the Include directory.
Readme
This readme file is installed in the Components directory.
Uninstall
---------
Not all the components intalled by this package are removed when it
is uninstalled. These items remains:
Microsoft Windows Installer
Microsoft Windows Script
Agilent VISA-COM
Agilent IO Libaries
IVI Shared Components
IVI Primary Interop Assemblies
The help, include, and readme files are removed.
To completely remove IVI components from your computer, uninstall
all drivers. Then uninstall "IVI Primary Interop Assemblies" using
the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Finally, run the
IVICleanupUtility to remove IVI Shared Components.
Known Issues
------------
The IVI Shared Components installer, may require that the computer
be re-started. You should restart the computer by clicking Yes and
then re-run this installation package to complete the installation.
Defering the restart by clicking No may cause the installation to
fail.
The latest known version of National Instruments' implementation of
VISA-COM does not add a registry for an Implemented Category
defined by the VISA-COM specification. The installation package
checks for that component category when determining if VISA-COM
installed. Thus, even if NI's VISA-COM is installed, this package
will assert that it is not. You can install Agilent's VISA-COM
sid-by-side with NI's without concern.
This installer works by calling other installation packages. The
interaction between new packages and a computer's configuration
cannot always be predicted. If you have difficulties at some step
of the installation, try downloading the package from site listed
above and installing it separately.
