Discussion
As you can see, there are many different approaches to sending data wirelessly. Some methods leverage existing infrastructure (NB-IoT using cellular), others focus on achieving high data rates for short range communications to many devices (IEEE 802.11a and IEEE 802.11b), while others use new techniques to optimize probability of success at mediumto-low data rates (LoRa).
Answer
1. (b) NB-IoT – Cellular
2. (a) IEEE 802.11b – 2.4 GHz
3. (c) LoRa – Chirp Spread Spectrum
4. (e) IEEE 802.11a – OFDM
5. (d) Sigfox – Ultra Narrow Band
1. (b) NB-IoT – Cellular
NB-IoT is a new (2015) wireless standard that uses the cellular phone system to pass small amounts of data using low cost, low power consumption devices. NB-IoT is part of Release 12 of the 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution) of cellular communication. The NB-IoT definitions are intended to allow machine communication to the cellular network, such as utility meters inside buildings where radio signal penetration may be challenging.
