89600 VSA Software install fails

Due to the Windows configuration on some X-Series Analyzers the installation of 89600 VSA Software software may fail.

To correct this issue while logged in as Administrator click Start, Control Panel, (System and Security) Administrative Tools, Services. Right click on Windows Update and select Properties. Select Startup type Disabled. Click the Stop button. Click the OK button.

Try installing the 89600 VSA Software with this configuration change. If the installation continues to fail, perform the procedure below.

1) Log in as Administrator user
    a) The following steps must be executed as Administrator
2) Stop the Windows Update service.
     a) Use Services snap-in
          i) Start:Services
          ii) Scroll down to Windows Update
          iii) Right-click Windows Update and select Stop
      b) Or … from an Administrator command window type …
          net stop wuauserv
3) Rename the folder …
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
    a) This step clears out any old “context” from failed Windows Update attempts
    b) Right-click folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and select Rename
        i) Rename the folder something like SoftwareDistribution.bak
4) Download and install the following .msu’s IN ORDER …
    a) “Servicing Stack Update September 2016” (KB3177467)

    b) After the first install, make sure the Windows Update service is still stopped by repeating the process to stop the Windows Update service.
        i) Use Services snap-in
            (1) Start:Services
            (2) Scroll down to Windows Update
            (3) Right-click Windows Update and select Stop
        ii) Or … from an Administrator command window type …
            net stop wuauserv
    c) “July 2016 Rollup” (KB3172605)

5) At the completion of the KB3172605 installation, a reboot will be required. Once the reboot has completed, open the Control Panel:Windows Update and initiate a Check for Windows Updates
