Executive Summary
Over the years, the methodology for modeling and simulation of communication systems has evolved in many ways. Today, for example, the use of simulation software to address design issues in advance of real hardware implementation has become commonplace. And, with continuing interest in future mobile communication technologies, modeling has taken on even greater importance. In a mobile communication system, modeling is used for three key segments: the baseband, RF transceiver and wireless channel. As a point of reference, Figure 1 illustrates a typical modern communication system architecture. It will be used throughout this document to help define the required features for each of these key segments.
