Extended Service Period FAQs

What is the Standard Service Period and how does it relate to the Extended Service Period?

The Standard Service Period extends from the time the product comes off warranty until five years after product discontinuance (end of manufacturing). During this period, Keysight offers a full range of support, including firmware and operating system updates, technical support, agreements, per incident repairs and calibration services. The end of the Standard Service Period marks the beginning of the Extended Service Period.

What is the Extended Service Period?

The Extended Service Period begins five years after the instrument is no longer manufactured. During the Extended Service Period Keysight provides a range of solutions to support the transition to new technology. If the time is not right to migrate to the newest technology or newer premium used instruments, Keysight offers a range of repair and calibration services until the time is right for your program to transition.

How is the Extended Service Period different from End of Support (EOS)?

Keysight no longer stops supporting instruments at a given date. Instead, instruments enter the Extended Service Period five years after the end of production. The Extended Service Period is a transition phase for those who are not yet ready or able to migrate to new technology. There are several Extended Service Period solutions to help you ease the transition to new or newer technology.

How do I know when my product enters the Extended Service Period? Where can I find what was the end-of-support (EOS) date?

A full range of repair and calibration services are offered on Keysight instruments for five years beyond discontinuance. After that time, instruments will transition to the Keysight Extended Service Period. Keysight offers a range of Extended Services to continue to support the instrument until it is time to transition to new or newer technology. You can find the date your instrument enters the Extended Service Period and the services available using Infoline.

Is there a tech evaluation fee to have my Extended Service Period instrument evaluated?

Tech eval fees are never charged if Keysight repairs the instrument or if Keysight is unable to repair the instrument for any reason.

A tech eval fee is charged if Keysight quotes a repair but the quote is rejected and the instrument is returned unrepaired. This fee will be waived if you select to transition to a new or newer Keysight instrument rather than having your current instrument repaired.

How will I know what this repair will cost?

Many ESP items have a fixed repair price, which can be quoted by our contact center. Some, however are priced during the tech evaluation (see above) on a time (Keysight's ESP labor rate of $560/hour) and material basis.

Is there a replacement for my instrument?

Keysight offers a range of replacement options for older instruments. We may have both new and refurbished instruments available.

What are my options during the Extended Service Period

Keysight offers a range of Extended Services to continue to support your instrument until it is time to transition to new or newer technology:

What is the repair turnaround time (TAT) for my instrument in the Extended Service Period?

The turnaround time for an instrument in the Extended Service Period may be longer than our typical turnaround time in the Standard Service Period. Please send your instrument in for a technical evaluation.

What is the difference between an Extended Service Period agreement and a Standard Service Period agreement?

You can feel confident that repair and/or calibration services agreements offer the same uncompromised levels of service in the Extended Service Period that you received during the Standard Service Period

If Keysight cannot repair my product, what are my options?

If Keysight cannot repair your product, the Extended Service Period offers several solutions to help you ease the transition to new or newer technology.

Can I lock in extended service at the time of purchase?

Yes, Keysight offers a variety of repair and calibration solutions at the time of instrument purchase to cover your longest-lived programs. On selected instruments, long-term plans of 5, 7 or 10 years can be included with the original instrument purchase. Keysight can also tailor a plan that ensures service for more than 10 years.

If I purchase a new instrument, how long will it be supported?

The Standard Service Period extends from the time the product comes off warranty until five years after product discontinuance. During the Standard Service Period, Keysight offers a full range of agreements, per incident repairs, and calibration services. Instrument production time varies by instrument. If you require long term support, the best time to buy is at the time of the instrument purchase or while the product is still in production (through the end of Standard Service Period). However, Keysight can also design a custom long-term service agreement while products are in the Standard Service Period.
