UFSA Compliance Test Workshop Paves the Way for Formal Certification of UFS Hosts and Devices

Industry’s first-ever vendor-independent integrated testing of UFS hosts and storage devices covers all standards used in UFS including MIPI® M-Phy®, UniproSM and JEDEC® UFS protocol

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--The Universal Flash Storage Association (UFSA), an open trade association chartered to promote and support the adoption of UFS, today announced results of its first Compliance Workshop hosted at Keysight Technologies in Santa Clara. The goal of these workshops is to validate the set of industry standard test procedures selected by the UFSA for UFS product certification. Developing the test matrix and proving the test procedures is a key step toward the deployment of a formal UFS certification program.

“This is the first time that the procedures selected in the test matrix have been executed by independent test engineers who were not responsible for the development of a UFS host or device,” said Perry Keller, Chair of the UFSA Compliance Committee and UFSA Board member. “Enabling reliable and efficient execution of these tests is essential to enabling independent UFS certification. The Workshop exceeded all expectations, testing UFS hosts, devices and intellectual property (IP) implemented on a wide variety of platforms.”

Robert Hsieh, Director of Product Marketing at Silicon Motion and UFSA Board member said, “UFS is a key enabler of a new class of high performance mobile platforms. Electrical and interoperability testing of both hosts and devices of this high-speed interface is essential for problem-free deployment. Silicon Motion is delighted to have had the opportunity to provide live UFS designs and engineering support to not only assure a successful Workshop, but also assure our own products will be prepared for certification.”

“As a trusted IP provider, Synopsys actively participates in compliance test programs to help ensure our IP is interoperable and functions as defined in the standard specification,” said John Koeter, Vice President of Marketing for IP and Prototyping at Synopsys. “By providing certification-ready, silicon-proven Synopsys DesignWare® UFS, UniPro and M-PHY IP that is compliant to the UFS specification, Synopsys enables designers to integrate high-quality IP into their mobile SoCs with less risk.”

Findings coming out of the Workshop will be provided to the relevant standards committees and will be used to refine UFSA’s test matrix and certification procedures. A second Workshop is being planned at which the participation of all UFS product developers is encouraged.
