Why doesn’t my instrument’s Java Browser Web Control work on Chome 42+?

Impacts systems with Chrome 42 or later:

Many of Keysight’s Brower Web Controls use Java to provide a remote user interface for instrument functionality. Google has decided, in Chrome version 42, to disable the NPAPI plugin architecture that is used to host Java in Chrome. You can use the following instructions to reenable Java in Chrome 42 or later:

1. Verify what version of Chrome you are using by visiting the following URL in Google Chrome:

  chrome://version

2. Visit the following URL for instructions on reenabling NPAPI:

  https://java.com/en/download/faq/chrome.xml#npapichrome

Google has indicated that they will no longer allow users to reenable NPAPI starting in Chrome 45, which is scheduled for release in September 2015.

What to do if you still can’t access your instrument’s Java Browser Web Control in Google Chrome:

You can find more help on issues related to using Java Browser Web Controls by visiting Why doesn’t my instrument’s Browser Web Control work?
