What does the “Deep Capture” option give me in the N9051B Pulse Measurement Software?
The N9051B software operates in “batch” mode: digitizing the RF signal into IQ samples, capturing a time-segment into memory, and then analyzing it. “Deep Capture” (Option 5FP) enables capture depth up to 50 MSamples gap-free; this is more than 100 times greater than the N9051A or the N9051B without Option 5FP.
The capture time depends on the sample interval: Time = (CaptureDepth) * (SampleInterval)
The smallest sample internal is limited by the bandwidth of the instrument: SampleInternal ~ 1 / (1.25 * BW). The user can set a smaller BW, corresponding to a lower sample-rate and longer sample interval; this will permit longer capture times.
The fastest rise-/fall-time can be estimated by ~3 * SampleInterval. The narrowest measureable pulse width can be estimated by ~6 * SampleInterval (magnitude), or ~12 * SampleInterval (phase and frequency).
In addition, Option 5FP also increases maximum number of pulses from ~1000 to ~200,000. Note that the Pulse Measurement Table in the GUI is limited to ~1000 pulses; you need to export the full table into Excel, using the CSV export.
Important: Deep Capture requires that the X-Series signal analyzer hardware has large capture memory, provided in:
- PXA (any configuration)
-
UXA, MXA or EXA must be equipped with one of these options: B40, B85, B1X, B1Y or DP2
