What is a Bypass Register?

A Bypass Register is an IEEE 1149.1 mandatory register which consists of a single boundary scan cell. When selected by the Bypass Instruction, The Bypass Register shortens the shift path between the test data input (TDI) and test data output (TDO) of a boundary scan device with a fixed binary “0” output. as seen in the figure below.
