How do I upgrade my N4010A from WLAN option 102 to WLAN option 103?

Options 102 and 103 are mutually exclusive, but no additional hardware is required to upgrade from 102 to 103. The upgrade simply requires removal of the 102 license before installing the 103 license.

Option 102 cannot be removed if options 204 and/or 104 are present. If either/both of these are present then they must be temporarily removed, and then re-installed once option 103 is present.

The following steps explain how to carry out this upgrade.

  • If Option 204 is present, then send the following commands.
Extract the license key: SYST:LKEY? "204"
    Remove option 204: SYST:LKEY:DEL "204"
  • If Option 104 is present, then send the following commands.
Extract the license key: SYST:LKEY? "104"
    Remove option 104: SYST:LKEY:DEL "104"
  • Send the following command to remove option 102:
    SYST:LKEY:DEL "102"
  • POWER CYCLE THE INSTRUMENT.
  • Send the following command to install option 103:
    SYST:LKEY "103", "REDEEMED LICENSE KEY FOR 103"
  • If required, then send the following command to re-install option 104:
    SYST:LKEY "104", "EXTRACTED LICENSE KEY FOR 104"
  • If required, then send the following command to re-install option 204:
    SYST:LKEY "204", "EXTRACTED LICENSE KEY FOR 204"

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If the instrument is 1 year old (or more), then it will also require re-calibration. Even if the instrument has been re-calibrated recently, it will not have been calibrated in the 5GHz region. This is because the calibration process is tailored to suit the installed options, and option 102 only requires calibration in the 2.4GHz region.
