Why does my PSA EMI Measurement Receiver tell me that I need to run the user alignment everyday?

Since there are two typical reasons why the PSA EMI Measurement Receiver will require a user alignment to be run you will first need to determine which one is causing the system to require the alignment.

To determine this do the following:

On the PSA press:

  • Mode Setup->Use RF Presel No

On the N9039A press:

  • Local (Cancel (Esc))
  • System->Alignments->Show Alignment Statistics

At this point you will see a screen that contains the following:

To determine if the repeated request to run the user alignment is due to the temperature of the instrument compare the "Current Temperature" with the two temperatures that were recorded the last time the user alignments were run. If the difference is 3° or greater for either one this will be the reason that the alignment is required. If the current temperature is lower than when the alignments were done it just might be that it has not fully warmed up yet. If this is the case, once the instrument warms up the alignment needed messages will go away*.

* If the N9039A has a software version less than A.02.02 and the PSA has a firmware version less than A.11.01 you will need to cycle the power of both instruments once the instrument warms up to make the alignment needed messages go away.
