How do I re-install the default waveform files for the CXG/EXG/MXG vector series signal sources?

The arbitrary waveform files are stored in the non-volatile memory of the instrument when it ships out of the factory. If the waveform files are accidentally deleted, a user can retrieve them through either of the following methods.

I. FTP Transfer Method:

  1. Download the .zip file from the "Factory Default N5172B, N5182B, N5166B, N5162A, N5182A Waveforms for Baseband Generator" link below, save, and unzip the waveform files.
  2. In your Internet browser, initiate the FTP file transfer to the instrument by typing in ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/user/nonvolatile, where “xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” is the IP address of the instrument. To find the IP address on your instrument, press: [Utility]>>{IO Config}>>{LAN Setup}
    Note: If Windows Internet Explorer asks “To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer”. Go to Internet Explorer “View” drop down menu and select “Open and FTP site in Windows Explorer”
  3. With both the waveform file folder and the FTP site open you can now drag and drop or copy and paste the waveform files that you want to store into the instrument's nonvolatile memory.
    Note: If you want to play the waveforms, the files must be copied to the Baseband Generator memory. This can be accomplished on the instrument by pressing the following keys: [Mode] >>{Dual ARB}>>{Select Waveforms}>>{Waveform Segments}>>{Load All From Int Media}

II. USB Memory Stick Transfer Method:

  1. Download the .zip file from the "Factory Default N5172B, N5182B, N5166B, N5162A, N5182A Waveforms for Baseband Generator" link below, save, and unzip the waveform files.
  2. Copy the waveform files from your PC to the USB memory device. For instrument compatible USB memory devices, please refer to “What USB storage devices are compatible with the MXG?
  3. Insert the USB memory device containing the default waveform files into one of the instrument front panel USB connectors. The instrument will automatically display the memory device contents
  4. On the instrument, press: [More] >> {Copy All Files} >>{USB To Internal Storage}

Note:

  • The factor default arbitrary waveforms do not apply to the E4438C ESG and E8267D PSG vector signal generators.
  • Firmware revision ≥A.01.20 is required on the N5182A or N5162A MXG vector signal generator. Firmware upgrade center
