I've upgraded my ESA with option 1DR, Narrow Resolution Bandwidths, yet the instrument will not go below a 1 kHz bandwidth. Why is this?

Assumptions:

  • Option 1DR has been properly entered using the license menu on the analyzer
  • Option 1DR has been properly licensed using the license menu on the analyzer
  • Option 1DR identifies when System, More, Show System is accessed on the analyzer

Reason:
This issue can occur when upgrading the ESA with option 1DR, Narrow Resolution Bandwidths on an instrument that does not have option 1D5, Precision Frequency Reference. The defaults file most likely has become corrupt and can be corrected by doing the following procedure:

  1. Install the option (1DR)
  2. Install a valid license key for the given serial number, model number and host ID. Note: This is the 12 alpha/numberic license key that was generated through the Keysight Redemption Website
  3. Cycle the power on the analyzer
  4. Send the following remote SCPI command to the analyzer via GPIB:
    :MMEM:DEL 'C:SYSTEM\DEFCONF'
  5. Press [Sytem], {More}, {Restore Sys Defaults} on the analyzer
  6. Verify that the resolution bandwidths will now go below 1 kHz
