What is the process to capture a trace image to the floppy disk on the Keysight 8712ES/ET and 8714ES/ET Vector Network Analyzers?

The 8712ES/ET and 8714ES/ET Vector Network Analyzers support HPGL, PCX, PCL5, and GIF image saves via the floppy drive. The following steps outline the process:

  • Select the HARDCOPY (hard key – HK)
  • Choose the Select Copy Port (soft key – SK)
  • Utilizing either the RPG knob or the ▲▼ (step up / step down) keys highlight one of the following selections:
Device TypeLanguageHardcopy Port
FileHPGLInternal 3.5" Disk
FilePCXInternal 3.5" Disk
FilePCL5Internal 3.5" Disk
FileGIFInternal 3.5" Disk
  • After highlighting the appropriate item, choose Select (SK) to finalize the entry.
  • Insert a formatted 3.5" Floppy disk into the 8712 / 8714 analyzer.
  • Press Save/Recall (HK) - Select Disk (SK) - Internal 3.5" Disk (SK)
  • Press HardCopy (HK) - Start (SK)
  • The analyzer will indicate "Cataloging Disk.." on the front panel
  • A graphics file with the appropriate extension (hgl, pcx, pc5, or pcx) will be saved on the floppy diskette. File names are auto-generated.

Each file type has specific application compatibility capabilities. For example:

pcx and gif files are binary files which are typically viewable within many desktop publishing applications.

hpgl / hgl file types consist of an ASCII vector mapping code set which require a filter to be viewed as an image.
