FAQ 2012-06-08

Can the 8657x Signal Generator be turned on with the RF output off?
No, it can't. When a DUT could be destroyed by high RF output.

FAQ 2012-06-08

How many capacitance measurement units (MFCMUs) can be installed in the B1500A?
Only one MFCMU can be installed in a B1500A mainframe.

FAQ 2012-06-07

What should I do in order not to set the ARB Sample Clock each time I recall a stored ARB file?
Provided are the settings for Header Information of an ARB waveform file and the Procedure.

FAQ 2012-06-07

How can I transfer a "state" from one PSG to another?
Using ftp, the transferred states are not visible in the Recall list.

FAQ 2012-06-07

What is the difference between E4438C options 001, 002, 601 and 602?
ARB memory depth, waveform segment and availaiblity of digital I/O port vary.

FAQ 2012-06-07

When I want to use reconstruction filters other than 250 kHz, 2.5 MHz, and 8 MHz, what should I do?
Use external filters instead of those preset filters to prevent the unwanted image spurious.

FAQ 2012-06-07

Does the E4438C ESG support MediaFLO?
Qualcomm has prepared MediaFLO IQ sample files to work with the 64-megasample arbitrary waveform generator.

FAQ 2012-06-07

I just received my signal generator which had the signal studio pre-installed in the instrument by the factory. I also received a binder containin...
Since the license(s) is pre-installed, the certificate entitlement(s) is not attached.

FAQ 2012-06-07

Why is the FSK modulation index of the ESG limited to about 4 or less on the E4438C and 1 or less on the E443XB?
The interpolation in the DSP algorithms for the baseband generator limits the modulation index.

FAQ 2012-06-07

When attempting to make a Modulation Accuracy (Rho) measurement in the cdmaOne personality I get the error message, "Cannot correlate to input sign...
The Modulation Accuracy (Rho) measurement in the cdmaOne personality requires that you only have the pilot carrier turned on for your base station. If other code channels are turned on, you will get this error message.

FAQ 2012-05-26

Is Option 300, GSM/EDGE Base-station loop-back test capability, going to be available on the N5182B MXG or N5172B EXG X-Series signal generators?
No, Option 300 will not be added to the X-Series signal generator instruments.

FAQ 2012-04-30

How can I generate TETRA and DECT signal for basic interference testing in many compliance test houses, which are bursted, just like the real standard
You can use PRAM to simulate spectrally correct signals for TETRA and DECT for bursted signals. See the X-Series User’s Guide for further information.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Can waveforms be writable to removable SD card so customers do not have to take apart instrument to remove internal hard drive?
Yes, this capability is available through security Option 006.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Can you bypass the internal reference chain with clean rubidium source on the X-Series signal generators?
The 10 MHz path is very clean and works with an external reference. The 1-50 MHz tunable path is noisier, see the data sheets for more details.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Is the phase coherency supported on the X-Series signal generators?
Yes, with Option 012, LO in/out for phase coherency.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Is the pulse generator specification still the same with ALC On/Off on the X-Series signal generators?
Yes, it still cuts off at <2µs, however, open loop power accuracy has improved with or without power search being run. In most cases, you will see tenths of dB accuracy without running power search. This is a significant improvement over first-generation MXG.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Can we get user defined data in ARB mode?
No, it is the same random pattern as in first-generation N5181A MXG. Real-time custom modulation has user defined data.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Will there be drivers available for the N5181B or N5182B X-Series signal generators?
Yes, 32 and 64 Bit IVI com, IVI C and MATLAB drivers are available.

FAQ 2012-04-30

What does the S/N mode affect negatively on the X-Series signal generators? Why not leave it on all the time?
The harmonics can degrade with S/N mode on.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Does N5181B or N5182B MXG Option UNY/UNX have backward code compatibility with E8663D or 8663D signal generators?
Yes, the N5181B and N5182B MXG Option UNY/UNX has the same SCPI as PSG E8663D. E8663D is the replacement of 8663D with BWCC (backward code compatibility).

FAQ 2012-04-30

Do the new sources de-crypt waveforms in the same way as the legacy sources? Can we just use pre-existing waveforms?
Yes. First-generation MXG N5182A Signal Studio N76xxB waveforms will play in new sources. Exception will be N7613A Signal Studio for Fixed WiMAX which has the legacy N76xxA structure.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Will the MXG and EXG X-Series signal generator work with the analyzers for ESC (external source control)?
They will not work at the time of introduction. The next version of the X-Series signal analyzer firmware (late 2012) should support the analog versions. The vector versions are to be added in the future, but the timing is undetermined.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Can we support atmospheric conditions with N7609B GPS on the N5182B MXG or N5172B EXG X-Series signal generators?
Yes.

FAQ 2012-04-30

Can you master/slave MXG and EXG or must they all be the same model number?
You can master/slave first generation MXG N5182A with the N5182B MXG and N5172B EXG X-Series signal generators. The N5172B or N5182B must be the master.
