Paper Abstracts
Paper 1: Test & Measurement Trends for Aerospace and Defence
The rapid advance of technologies used in many aerospace and defence systems have resulted in shorter upgrade cycles, placing an increased strain on defence budgets and on the organizations that are trying to keep pace with advancing threats from present and potential adversaries. As part of this advance, performance and reliability requirements continue to become increasingly stringent. In response, test tools must adapt to these needs by addressing issues such as ease of use, cost of test and, perhaps most important, the evolution of cutting-edge performance. This paper will explore some of the current trends in test and measurement equipment and software. One point of emphasis will be the advantages of new architectures and capabilities that help solve the growing challenges in the characterization of radar, electronic warfare, signals intelligence (SIGINT) and satellite systems.

 

Paper 2: Analysis of Modern Radar and Electronic Warfare Signal

Today's radar and EW systems rely on sophisticated signal processing and complex pulse modulation. Thorough design verification is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of these techniques during critical engagements. To help designers measure signal parameters and verify proper operation, this paper discusses advanced signal capture and analysis techniques for RF pulsed signals (e.g., variable segment length, gapless capture, de-interleaving, duplexed real-time analysis, etc.). These features enable increasingly efficient test and evaluation methods and thereby greater confidence in system performance.

 

Paper 3: Critical Decision When Selecting Your Next Wideband Measurement Solution

This paper describes the differences between digitizer and oscilloscope measurements and explains how the trade-offs will impact your wideband measurement results. Wider communication bandwidths are used more and more to keep up with the changes in wireless communication standards as well as for many aerospace & defense industry programs. Regardless of the carrier frequency, digitizers and oscilloscopes are key tools for wideband analysis. The challenges associated with wideband measurements lead us to think differently about our measurement instrument selection because using the correct approach will greatly improve your measurement results. You will learn: 1) About the differences in measurement fidelity 2) How to address automation or events and triggering 3) How to identify glitches or infrequent events 4) The best way to implement multi-channel, coherent measurements

Cases from wireless and A/D applications will be included.

 

Paper 4: Enabling Accurate and Repeatable Performance Testing of Mission-Critical Radios in a Laboratory Environment
Today's most advanced field equipment relies on robust wireless communication: personal radios, vehicle-to-vehicle links, target positioning systems, and more. In particular, mesh networks must be able to withstand a wide range of natural elements and external threats that can impair radio performance. Further, mission-critical radios and network equipment must also tolerate continuously changing topologies and conditions. This paper will present techniques that support the extensive and rigorous testing needed to ensure reliable system performance in even the most demanding use cases.
Paper 5: Applying a New “Scenario Framework” Simulation Technique to a Multi-Static System
With the ability to process multi-path reflections, multi-static systems improve the performance of advanced radar and EW systems. Testing such systems requires a solution that can incorporate the dynamics of moving targets, moving platforms, multiple antennas, clutter, jamming, and interference. This paper will apply a promising new technique called generic scenario framework simulation (GSFS) to the simulation and evaluation of a multi-static radar system. To further improve the design in its earliest stages, the solution can also incorporate links to measurement equipment.
